I have not the financial ability to originate such a school and I doubt if I have the knowledge to be an instructor. I would like to give the plan to some one that may have the founding of an eduactional institution in view. If it can be found to have any real practical worth in it I would as I have already said be glad to have it incorporated into a living school either as a whole or in part. I know nothing of you plans except short notices in one or two newspapers, but if you will be willing to look over my plan and give the matter a consideration I shall be glad to forward it to you you. If you like it you can use it or any part of it, if you do not all I ask is that you return it to me. Respectfully Yours Henry Balwin

Hon Leland Stanford My Dear SirYou never replied [to my?][note?] to you at Washington, giving you the names of my 3 older boys and asking you to place their names on the list of applicants to [enter?] your Palo Alto school on opening. I repeat their names and ages as follows: Robert [Granes?] Barlow age 14 1/2 William Henry Barlow age 12 1/2 Clarence [King?] Barlow age 10 1/2 I enclose their photos herewith. If we could get a desireable piece of ground of say 5 or 10 acres anywhere within half a mile of your school, we should be [inclined?] to build our permanent home there, and all the children "[including?] 4th of July [lible?] Leland" might attend your establishment

and remain under our Control of rights. The dear boys have never come in contact with bad depraved children, and to this day, they have either tutor or governor at home. At your leisure, should like to hear from you about this. As Ever Yours Robert Barlow

Hon Leland Stanford:Dear Sir:Will you be so kind as to answer the following inquiries for me? I did not know of anyone I could get the information better from than you - hence this letter. When will The Leland Stanford Jr. University be open to receive students? What qualifications must one have to enter? What will be the cost of tuition and board per month? When and to whom is application to be made? What studies will it be necessary for a student to be proficient in before entering? Now in regard to myself I will say a few words, I am a foreigner
