May 20th 1889, Senator Leland Stanford, This morning, every member of my department, the highest in the town school pledged himself to work for money to carry him through the Stanford University. I write therefore to get directions for their preparation or if you have no course of study yet will you be kind enough to send an article to our state official organ, making our duty clear to teachers who would gladly help pupils, if we knew what to do.
