grounds and gardens as I have always made an especial study of things pertaining to them, but I should be more willing to undertake any other duties that may be assigned me. I have paid particular attention to the artistic principles that should govern work of this kind as well as the practical care and treatment of trees, shrubs and plants with which I have been uniformly successful.
I have made a critical examination of nearly all the parks and pleasure grounds in this country and wish to take a trip abrosd for the same purpose if an opportunity ever presents itself. I cannot but feel that my acquaintance with Mr. Olmstead, Mr.[Parsons?] and other men eminent in their profession have been of great benefit to me and I can rely upon their advice and assistance whenever I desire it. I have had a long experience in doing the best [class?] of [goot?] work and few men in the country are more familiar with the [planetable?] and its use. I am heartily sick of the government service as I have found it and always prefer other work when I can get it.
I am accustomed to directing laborers and others and succeed in keeping good discipline and achieving always a fair amount of work.
