Letters home to his parents; paper on religion; and two photographs : Beckwith with friends and Branner Hall

have difficulty in finding something to write about.

We had a vacation last Thursday and I went to Frisco with Frederick Buck. We didn't decide to go until about seven twenty so we arrived too late to see a good show and had to go to Will King's musical show comedy which begins at 9 oclock. San Francisco is as crowded at 11:30 as Los Angeles at 10 in the morning.

My debate on the Ruhr valley which was to have taken place last Wednesday was postponed two weeks. I had handed in my brief and received a grade of B+ on it.

I think I will arrive home for my Easter Vacation on March 23 though I may decide differently. I now plan to leave on the Lark the night of the 22nd.

This morning I went to church and heard a vague sermon by Dr. Von Kleinsmid of V. S. C. advocating

that the U.S. join the League of Nations.

I started in playing tennis again this week and have played hard matches for the last three or four days, playing better than I expected to after so long a vacation.

My foot was very sore after my match yesterday but seems alright today. If my foot does not bother me I will try to get in some steady practice the rest of the quarter.

Dear Father,

How do you like my ambigous heading? I don't believe you can divine to whom I am writing this letter. This lights went out for a while so I thought I would have time to write a letter when I would not be wasting time. They have gone on again however so don't blame me if this is a short letter.

Blame the power house which gives very poor service here anyway.

I have been so persistently and continously engaged that I have had to apportion out my leisure moments very carefully and systematically. I noted my grades are lagging terribly; I fear I will not receive any "Bs" this quarter and I am very likely to be kicked off the "Dippy" any minute. They are only

keeping me on because the freshmen on the staff are giving a banquet next week which will cost them about seven dollars apiece and if I were eliminated from the struggle it would cost about a dollar more apiece.

I just remembered that I must go to hear the Tri-State? Debate tonight and write a brief on it.

I tried out for the Freshmen debating team and made it along with the Southern California High

School Debating Champion of last year. I and another boy will go up to Berkeley sometime next month and speak for twenty minutes or more in the auditorium there. The question is a poor one and I have the rotten side of the question so I will have to work hard on it. Cannot you imagine me delivering a 15 minute speech without notes besides a 7 minute refutation?
