Kappa Sigma HouseStanford University, Jan. 10, 1900 My dear Mother: The University has opened, the students ar all back, we have moved into our Chapter House and all the boys have fixed up their room + have settled down to business. I like my room very much. It is not a lar room, but very cosy. It gets sunlight + air from two windows, + as it is a corner room the view is unsurpassed. I am well satisfied with my surroundings the only possible objection to be urged is the distance from the University. A wheel , however, reduces the apparent remoteness of the place + a brisk ten minute ride carries us to our classes in the morning. I want you to send down to me a note book which I left at home in my haste. It is a green stiff ^cloth covered book 10 in. long + 5 1/2 in. wide. It has my name in it + contains the Bibliography of my

thesis. You will probably find it downstairs on the table or at the side of the secretary. It might, however, be in my own room. And now the way to get to me: Mr. Chas Asmussen, a student friend lives on the south east corner of 8th + Harrison Sts. His mother runs the little dry-goods + notion store on that corner. Take the book to that place and ask tha it be given to Mr. Chas. Asmussen to take to myself at the University. I need the book at once, so if you will kind send it down by Claude or Paul to my friend he can take it to me the next morning for he goes back + forth. Act promptly! Please!!! I rec'd my letter from British Columbia , so you need not look for it, thank you! How did the Unity conclave yo off? I hope everything looked well. When we move away from my Hebrew + Swedish + Irish + Spanish friends w shall attempt to be more respected shall we not? We shall !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Fred.

I have passed off two exes making up back work thereby, and felt somewhat jubilant and careless now. On Tuesday I make my preliminary report on the above thesis. On Thursday the University closes but I shall not be able to return right away. I shall have to take another examination covering back work and the preparations [?] us [?] [?] will [?] [?] my [?] ing have all the University

until, probably, Saturday. We have just engaged a chapter house for next semester. The house is situated in Palo Alto. It is an elegant home for our Fraternity. Of course, the house will be known as the "Kappa Sigma House." We have eleven men with us now having intiated two fellows Friday evening. I enjoyed your sketch hugely. [?] missed your calling when you did not study art! Goodby until the end of the week. With Love- Fred
