you about Lawrence Cor knowing Mac Huseth. Well he tells me she's a (beautiful blonde now [notation: irrelevant]), and she's going to O. [S?L?]. C. and he has written to a mutual friend for her address. I am going to write to her and ask her to stop over and see us next June on her way home, that is if you don't mind. I would enjoy seeing her very much. Come to think of it, she's the oldest [notation] not oldest but oldest - you know [/notation] friend (or playmate) that I have outside of the family; I mean that I can see within the next year or so.

Sure wish I could be there to help you bundle Jimmy up sometime. I'll bet he looks like a little snowman when he comes in to get warm. (Or is there any snow.)

That is certainly too bad about Harry Crosby. I'm writing him tonight. Hope he gets well quick. Did he have the crew out all ready when that happened? Heard any about Babe getting a job there lately?

Yes, I spoke to Bob about the Nelson girl and he remembered her. He didn't know that her father had died though.

Surely wonderful that you can continue your French. Now when I get home I can talk to you in Spanish and we can carry on 2 one-sided conversations. Or - would you like to learn Spanish. It's easier than

French. That is you can learn it faster. I'll have my textbooks, and I know you could learn to speak it better than you'll be able to speak French in a very short while. I think it would be lots of fun if we both knew the same language. (You know we don't speak the same English dialect anymore. Not since I've been around this gang of rough-necks.) I think I've really hit my stride in Spanish class now. I got a B in a little quiz the other day and whats more "Dear Teacher" and I are very chummy - which, strange as it may seem, helps a great deal, even at Stanford University. I'm going to dig right in and knock this course for a loop or "know the reason why" as California says in their song. I hope I'm more successful than Cal. has been.

By the way Jane - I wonder if you - by any chance, could in a casual way ask Lois Pearce when Norene's birthday is. You know - real tactfully etc. I'd be very much obliged, if you would let me know as soon as possible.

Weaver and I are working hard on Chem. these days. If we keep it up we should have no trouble repeating our last quarter's grades. Believe me though - we sure are getting into some deep Chemistry. We're studying theories of ionization & dissociation that are not even worked out completely

by anyone. By the end of next quarter we will have gone as far in General Chem. as is possible at present, you know. Analytical Geometry is a very stiff course, but I believe I can rate at least a B and possibly an A. lettering is a swell course. They are doing just what Dad said all good letterers needed. developing the letters first, and then ephasizing the spacing. believe me - you sure can letter when you get out of this course. I'm coming along first rate in it. Had some luck in a test in it the other day and got an A. [Cit?] is a funny (I mean queer) course. You can spout words of wisdom all day in recitation and yet if you don't do well in your tests - you're out of luck. I've learned that much at least in [Cit.?] , and I should profit by it [ink changes] this quarter. (The twin sister to your pen just ran out of ink.) So much for studies.

We play Cal. here in basketball next Saturday [ink changes] (Another pen out of ink.) Of course we're going to take them to the cleaners.

I've been plugging along in tennis, and I don't think I've got much show to make a letter. I think I'll be on the first 10 however. I'll know more definitely next week. For all I know I may take a crack at golf. If you are in the first 10 rankings of the Frosh Class, you

are allowed to play free. Sounds pretty good to me. I've asked several fellows what score they thought was good for qualifying and they said a 90. I used to play under 90 all the time in Spokane, but this course may be lots harder.

I'll send you a Chappie tomorrow. They've been out for over a week, but I just finished reading it yesterday.

I played in an inter-mural basket-ball game the other night. Encina vs. Delta Upsilon. Had a swell time.

Last week was wishing week for the sororities. They had a big time all around. 80 girls pledged. There was quite a fuss because some boy in girls' clothing had been attending all of the open houses of the sororities. Some one found him out at one occassion, but he made his get-a-way and his identity remains unknown.

I'll bet you must think I'm ill or something - writing such a long letter, but I'm just trying to redeem myself for not having written for so long. Hope this will make amends.

Well, must study for awhile now before going to bed. Span. Ex. on verbs tomorrow.

Signing off at 8:40 P.M.

Love,

Lex

Saturday Night

[modern notation?] (April 12, 1930) [LA?TA?] [/modern notation?]

Love to hear from Dad.

Hello everybody,

Well, I'm being a good boy and staying home. I couldn't go out now, if I did decide to, because I have loaned out my big blue overcoat, my new hat, and my money for the evening. It's surely dead around here Sat nights - everyone gone. A fellow named Ed Clift and I were up to the City last night to a dance. He has a nice big blue Chrysler "75" & is the fellow I rode to L.A. with spring vacation.

Sunday Night

Maybe I'll have better luck this time. I was interrupted last night very abruptly. Robb, Kennedy & I went to Dicks fraternity for dinner
