each on Time/Business Week, Management book some more, Artificial Intelligence books (two), prayer, & Comparative Computer languages (at MSoft). Prayer did get sidetracked and so did T/BW but I managed to finish my goal. The motivation was that I was interested in AI but this has to be applied to something and I had chosen business. My interest was to become adept in the long run at owning companies. I wanted to study T/BW to be current on the market/society trends, and read management to understand business better.

But I found AI to be as unstable now as it was the last time I'd studied it in 1971. To be sure, there had been some progress made, but I decided to leave it behind for now until it can be applied. My study of Comparative Languages showed me that COBOL was an excellent one fitting very nicely into the scheme of data processing without much [focus?] with PL/I. I learned a good deal of history from this as well. That is written up subsequently as are my thoughts about it. But the main result is that I still don't think that

I would be much interested in working on another language after COBOL.

Then vacation came and for 2 weeks I had a good rest. This is written up a bit below. The first half had not yielded much in the way of thoughts about anything. The second half I split T/BW into their own two 45 min periods and restudied managers sometimes somewhat over the BW slot. I kept a prayer slot and used it more, and I Studiend DataBase Mgt Systems by Martin (the nonintro big book). This I read because it seemed like "applied AI." It taught me something and during this period I was fine tuning Wallman's indexed file code so I had hands-on experience with DBMS. In the Time slot I also read other general magazines.

At the end of summer, I was back watching PBS, this time, the Pallisers. All 22 seqments were on consecutively daily except for Sat. I saw them all over four weeks! Good show. Chip + I had tea every night while watching them. I filled in a lot of gaps as I hadn't seen them all last time

in the first half of 1977, when I watched them on Comanche with Bill + Paul. Also I wateched all of the Soap episodes to come up to date, and have been watching them since.

During Spring and summer I played a lot of tennis and volleyball, swam, sunbathed, and had a generally good time. The weather here is not so great from mid June through end of Aug, but I still play some tennis. A lot was played mid-Mar through mid-June and in September. Too hot and it does rain quite a bit in the summer. Boring weekends - playing cards - Fresca + liqueur! Fall is definitely the best time here. Tennis this October too. I took two weeks of tennis lessons last spring as well. Cute small blond instructor. Well proportioned ones attract me.

Also remember how Michael Middleton was kicked out of house + stayed with us a few weeks. That was not bad.

I figure that the year ended Oct 9 with the three day holiday, which took Chip + I to Colorado. It was a good year, stable; I learned, I read, I thought. Hopefully it has prepared me for the coming year.

* * * Got [Pupe and Taos?] in July. Also Adam's Den opened.

The outline of this book must now be described. I want a place where I can write my thoughts on various topics of importance to me. Writing them will help me to make them more accurate and will allow me to review then with great accuracy after some fair amount of time has passed. I will write ideas leaving room on each topic for further development.

There are some things I know for sure; they will be outlined in the next few pages. I tend to see this book as an accounting of my use of time and a tool for planning the future use of time, just as my small "accounting" book has these qualities for money. Of course I will not keep track of time spent here and there. But I should keep track of the thoughts which affect the use of time. The SIGNIFICANT thoughts are of concern to me here. It is so important to remember what is relevant.

SO what do I use my time for. Of course there is sleeping. I seem to get by on six hours a night from 10:30 till 5:15 which gives me some time to fall asleep and to wake up. Then time getting ready in the morning which takes till 7:00. NEVER think before 7:00. Get stable. Then various reading till 10:00. Then a snack; then drive to work. I then work for the rest of the day. And in the evening I exercise or play tennis or watch television or have friends over or continue to work late (at least one night a week) or go out or do household chores, or read, and of course dine.

The above is for Mon - Fri. I usually work on Saturday somewhat and do household errands, and then go out at night after going to exercise in the late afternoon. I usually get up later in the morning on Saturday because I think should sleep in sometimes and also I sometimes stay out late Friday nite.

Sunday is a day I never account for. It is a day of rest and relaxation. Or at least
