Even if I do stay here and get exhilarated through winter, by doing [underlined] hard work [underlined], what fun is spring + summer here. [superscript note] A lot [superscript note] Last year was ok, but this coming year? The dollars really don't mean much, it's the principle. [superscript note] Wrong [superscript note]. But not everyone can have it. Fine. I don't want them to have it. I'm just trying to set a price that Bill won't accept so I can leave [underlined] without FEELING I MADE A MISTAKE. [underlined] 1 [highlighted] The only product I want to do here is Pers Acct. [highlighted] 2 No interest in hardware operating systems (or graphics) languages (business or systems) productivity tools (PLAN, CHART, WORD, FILE) 3 Only mode for doing Pers Acct is royalties since it is [underlined] my design. [underlined] [highlighted] It is [underlined]my [underlined] inspiration. THIS IS MY FIRST DESIGN. RISKY. But manage that design!!! Don't do it yourself! [highlighted] So if we can't come to terms that way, then I'll feel like leaving. I'll feel funny about working [underlined] super hard [underlined] if there are no LARGE RESIDUALS! And I want to work hard.

If I can't get a dime (BUT I DON'T NEED DOBS MORE $$) out of every dollar the purchases pays, if my work isn't worth 10%, the forget it, I won't create.

There's 1) nothing for me to learn five c, xenix, ADB (But I get to do my first design & lead it) 2) nothing for me to play on piano is dead (revise it) skiing is weak too (strenthen it) braces are done Rep & Empty (pick a show & go see it) space are kaput No friends who are meaningful (cute, hunky, rich, ambitious - TRUE -)

Bill's offer amounts to getting double time for three months. Even at triple time, that's 1/2 (yay) x 1/4 (3 months) x 75000 x (3-1)= 17000 extra A.T. WRONG

Not bad, but not good for 3 months of hard work in Seattle in winter, and the project still not done.

[highlight]A very [box]UGLY DAY ENSUED[/end highlight] especially after orthodontist[/box]

I tried to write a response to Bill and type it in at work. But [highlight]I realized problems w/royalties[/end highlight]

(1) What about use of the code after its use in initial products (2) It's only a question of %. THe deal must be perpetual to really reward me accurately. Which make #1 even worse.

The only problem with Bill's suggestion is that [highlight] I have to be damn sure not to make the spec too specific, or to contain too much.[/end highlight] Possible. But my after-tax bonus will only be about $141K = 3.5/12 * 75k[comment]2 for tax[/comment] * 1.30 [comment]suffering factor ask for 1.50[/comment]

But that isn't bad.

And after that I can [highlight]take my time refining the product, beta testing it, [/end highlight] teaching Mom + Dad, etc. That will be enjoyable, and it will be summertime almost. [highlight]I WILL GET TO WORK WITH PEOPLE ON THIS A LOT.[/end highlight]

And I must remind myself that [highlight] I have no need of personal wealth, since I [/end highlight] (1) don't have a family (2) don't invest with any particularly notable success (3) don't have expensive taste.

Note the two advantages of heavy duty workload (1) I don't have extra expenses so the extra income, after tax, is a pure gain (2) I can include suffering factor to pump it up.

[highlight] So the structure works. [/end highlight] The only question is: is $75K enough? To cover (1) No enjoyment from learning C, Vi, XENIX, AΔB But this is offset by the level of interest I have in the produ[ct?] (2) Nothing to play with. I can revive piano + skiing and robotics, after April 15

[highlight] This way, I only have to do one piece of software, [/end highlight] for Hal. And just direct implementation elsewhere. If I had royalties, what then? I'd want to manage others, but what does that do to my %?

But why give it all away, Why not keep some royalties? Based on what? Sales?

YES: Since it protects Bill from taking big salary [on me?]

NO: Why should I get benefit of an especially big market, for one product. [highlight] My bonus should be based on my product development ability; not size of market. [/end highlight] [circled]being no good at [MKG?][/end circle] [margin] The idea is that all employees have stock in proportion to what they contribute, to cover this. [/end margin]

Could be good entré to home banking.

BUT REMEMBER :

If I do have interest in something to do outside Microsoft, don't do it for μS! Like I started to do Pers Acct
