1797 Parramatta Gaol Aug [August 25th 1874 My dear Mr Hassall. There is a prisoner in the gaol of the name of Thompson alias Baldy, he has been with me nearly 4 years as a servant and he has asked me to write and ask you if you would obtain him a situation I have no hesitation in saying that he is the best servant I have ever come across in the Colony of New South Wales. He is an excellent cook and excellent [indecipherable] servant and is useful at anything. So a person wanting a good servant he would be invaluable This is not the first time he has been in but I think he has had (underlined) enough of prison (underlined) and would turn out well (underlined) if he has only a chance. He does not wish to stop in Sydney He wants to get away from old atrocities. He will be discharged

Please answer this at your earliest convenience and trusting that you and your family are well and not regretting leaving this Colony Believe me to be Yours most sincerely [indecipherable] H [indecipherable] The Revd [Reverend] J.
