December 23rd
Sabbath
At 9 oclk last night Mary O. Brian (a young
girl that has been here before) beg'd and implored to
be allowed to come in, when told we had strict
orders [underlined] not [end underlined] to admit anyone without a Doctor's
Certificate that they are free from Syphilis.
She wept bitterly, said she did not know any doctors.
Seeing her so earnest, and in such deep distress, at such a
late hour too, I told her to go to the Asylum, and ask
Dr. Rendwick if he would please to give her one -
She went, but she was told he had gone home. She then
went to his house, and he was so kind as to
examine her, and give her a note and I took
the poor outcast in. we had then to get her clothes
a bath, and then a bed - If she will turn from
her wicked ways (as she promises to do) the labor
will not be lost. When they go back to their
sin, after getting our care and attention, good food
and rest, it is heartrending.

Monday 24th
Mr Baptiste sent 2lbs Tea, 2lbs Coffee
15lbs Sugar, 6 Bottles Lemon Syrup - 6lbs Raisins
4 lbs Currants, 1/2 lb O Peel, 1/2 lb spice, 1 Doz'n Lemons
3 Doz'n Egges 6bls Rice, 1/2 cwt potatoes - 25lb Flower
4lbs Suet. Lady Young brought 5 vol "Good Words
A Awt of little tea things for Emma Burrows and said she w'd send a
cart with the cake &c.

Teusday 25th [tuesday]
Last eve'g Lady Young's present came to hand
there was plumb [plum] cake (enough for all) Tea, Sugar
Butter and 3 Dozn' "fine oranges.
Mr. Graham (grocer) sent us a bag of flours
6lb Raisin 3lbs Currants & 1/2 lb spice.
Miss Danne came at noon, she had the 53 [sup] chapy?, and
we sang "Hark the Herald angels sing."
