Wednesday.
Lady Young called to speak about the debt remaining on the Refuge. asked if that were paid, could we manage to carry on
afterwards. said she would bring Sir John Young and Mr Parker, cheif [chief] Secratary [secretary], early tom, that they would look through the Institution and hear what we had to say. and she hoped they would clear off the debt [underscored]. I went in the evening to tell Revd Thos. Smith and he very kindly said he would meet them at 11 oclk.
Elizth. McGill is one of the worst girls we have, using bad language and she will not [underscored] work.
Thursday
14th Precisly [precisely] at 11 oclk our noble visitors made thier [their] appearance Mr Parks said they " would like to see the Dormitories" - they went into all the rooms & just as they decended [descended] the stairs on our way to the iorning [ironing] room, the inmates sang the National anthem.
Sir John "was glad to see such nice bathrooms" and asked if the inmates apreciated [appreciated] them! on being told they did, he said "the money was well spent in thier [their] erection". we shewed [showed] the great need of a shed, for the girls that had to wash in the yard. that I was often sadly afraid of them getting
sun struck [underscored]. his exellency [excellency] asked how much it would cost. I said, about 15 pounds - - as we had zinc roofing enough. we only needed wood, and labour - he then turned to the
