1867 May
Monday 27th
Eliz'th Riley's Mother brought the two
(M. Brown & Eliza Beuce) back. after giving
them breakfast. she says her daughter is at home and
behaves herself much better now.

Tuesday 28th
All the ships washing was carted
away and the bill signed. the girls are
busy house cleaning, the bedstead, walls &c &c

Wednesday 29th
A young woman asked
admission sent here to Mrs. Goodlet
from whom she brought a note saying she might
stay until teusday [tuesday] (sub comm?)

Thursday 30th
A Mrs. Mc Crae called to ask if her daughter
age 14 years, could be admitted
that she was unfit to be left alone, she found her
with a boy only 10 years old. she wept bitterly & said
everything seemed to go wrong with her, that all her family
were so respectable, her eldest brother, J Tho's Smith had been
7 times Mayor of Melbourne, and a sister of hers had
three sons in the Audit office.

Friday 31st
Mrs McCrae called early this morn'g wanting
to take her daughter home, that her husband (the
girls step father) was angry at her, for leaving [sup] her [end sup]
here, that the whole family would be disgraced thereby.
I told her she ought to have consulted her husband
before taking such a step, that it was not in my
power to dismiss the girl, she must apply to the comm'e.
