DIARY OF FRANCIS TAYLOR, 1787,
1787,
November,
27, Went with G.T. to Court, bought sundries at Lees & paid for.
28. Rainy & snow with it in morning, Davy got his arm hurt by the Tob'o prize beam. C.Taylor went to see him, called by here & dined and we went after dinner to Court.
29, Went again to Court, Capt Conway came home with us & staid. Had 2 Hnds Corn brought up & put in Corn house. Had my horse shod by Day.
30, C.Taylor came here & breakfasted. C.Conway went home & we went to Court. Fine weather. Court adjourned. Lent G.Taylor my young horse to ride for some time.
December,
1, G.Taylor went to G.Taylors to dinner. I went to J.Taylors- J.Pendleton, T.Barbour & J.Taylor jr. & Rob't Taylor had been hunting & killed a Raccoon & were there, also Uncle E.Taylor, Rob't Taylors wife, Miss Nelly Shepherd & H.Pendleton jr- I staid till supper. Weather fine & mild.
2, Went with G.Taylor to Church, it being a fine day, Mr.Waddill preached, there were as many as usual at Church. Mr.Waddill told the audience that he had been informed that it would be agreeable to them for him not to attend here again till March, & that he should not until then. G.T. & self dined at J.Taylors. H.Pendleton there. [Sunday]
3, I went to Holmes's: left a coat to alter, and jacket & Breeches to make. Went from there to Howarths & bought sundry trifles. C.Taylors wife & Miss M.Conway were here & cut out negroes Clothes, were gone before I got home. Cart brought up Corn & put in Corn house, 2 Hnds.
4, Rain a little in morning & smoky, good day. J.Taylor & son James, J.Pendleton H.Pendleton & T.Barbour dined here.
5, Sent George & Frank with Wheat to Mill. Rained a little, J.Clark breakfasted here. Spoke to my father about staying &c. It hailed & snowed a little in morning.
6, I went to Mrs Thomas's with Jno & H.Pendleton. She & J.Thomas were gone to store we came to bro'r James's where G.Taylor(who had been to Court house) came, Rob Taylors wife was there we staid till in the night & came home in the rain very dark.
7, Fine mild weather, went to Church with G.T., Mr.Stevenson preached a Funeral Sermon on the death of Jam's Thompson's dec'd wife. A Holmes brought my cloathes to Church and I paid him 10/- for making Jacket & Breeches. S Mozingo came here in Evening & expects his wife to lie in soon. Let him have 12 q't brandy & 2 lb bro Sugar.
8, Went to Court house ith Hub'd & C.Taylor who called by here- Capt Burnley was here & got George to Butcher a beef- His cart being at Reu Taylor called by & brought 50 slabs- There was Oysters at Hansfords on which I dined with several & staid till night.
