C.Taylor went away before dinner being sent for to visit sick negro at Capt. Conway's- John Taylor staid till next morning- Capt Herndon's Waggon took a load Wheat- & 3 Bus Peas, the last, to Hyde's. 6, My father & G.C.Taylor dined at Uncle Taylor's. Capt burnley was here & asked me to dine with him, I went after part of Spinning house was raised- Maj'r Moore- Mrs Burnley sen'r, Mr T.Bell, Miss N.Bell & Jas Bell were there. 7, I went to Rob't Taylor's- Wm Madison was there and spayed 8 shoats for R.Taylor Saw some Red Strawberries- Joshua Fry was at my fathers when I got home. Smart frost this morning. 8, [SUNDAY] J.Fry & G.C.Taylor went to Mr.Waddill's meeting. Bees swarmed- Capt Herndon's Waggon brought up 1 sack salt, a loaf White & a little brown sugar from Lovel & Urquart, who had rec'd 50 bus Wheat. 9, My small mare put to Maj'r Moore's Clodius. I went by C.Taylor's and with him to Dade's Mill, where William & Francis Madison & Robert Taylor met us. F.M. caught two pike, the fish the rest caught were few and small- We dined at W.Madison's. R.T's family. C.Taylor & self ret'd at night. Herndon's waggon Loaded with 50 bus Wheat. 10, Had hills &c for Watermelons &c made- Weather uncommonly dry. 11, Planted melon and other seeds in the Pen by Great Gate- Some rows of French peas & more of the large kind, also 3 rows white corn. Sowed Indian Pepper & a bed of Cabbage & White Mustard seeds. Pompions & Cimblings & Jerusalem oak seed near old Plant patch. 12, Dry, windy- some clouds- J.Taylor came by & went to C.Taylor's- C.T. was from home & I came back and soon after C.Taylor came over- they dined here. 13, Some clouds and rains in view- a very little here- turned cool at night. 14, Very cool for the season- & very dry- I went to A.Porter's Mill. John Waugh had invited a good many to fish & dine on the Shore- There was but a small company Charles, Reuben, G.C.Taylor, Rob't Taylor, Wm.Taylor & Reuben came by on their return. [I think "Redplains" was the same as "Ararat" formerly Hubbard Taylor home and sold by him to Wm.Taylor, Dec.7, 1789- WKA] 15, [SUNDAY] G.C.Taylor went to Mr.Waddill's meeting. My father & I went to J.Taylor C.Taylor & G.Taylor (R.plains) came here after we were gone and went to J.Taylor's to dinner. Wm Alcock called at J.Taylor's on his way from Fredericksburg- I paid him a Dollar for 2 bottles Turlington, which he told me he had bought for me. 16, G.C.Taylor went to Maj'r Moore's- I walked over the Mountain to the place Wm.Finnel formerly lived at- Two forward Cherry trees much broke & abused- I killed a Squirrel. 17, Sent my mare to horse, she refused him. Reu Taylore dined here- after dinner I went to J.Taylor's, he had got a letter from his son that he and Maj'r Hite's family were getting well of Smallpox. 18, Reu Taylor came by- my father & I went with him to Uncle Taylor's- Maj'r Moore Mrs.Moore & John Moore dined there. When we got back Benj'a Taylor, William, Richard & Colby Taylor got up from Caroline. Richard & Colby are to go to school- Uncle Taylor paid me 4 Guineas to day 20 p.w. 18 gr= £5.10.8. 19, James Taylor, Ch's Taylor & Henry Pendleton dined here, we had Punch &c. Alex Shepherd sent Griffy for Moses Perry's Wheat and had 18 1/2 Bushels which was all that was left. 20, Dosia returned with the horses, Dicky & Colby rode up. We all went to J.Taylor Reuben Taylor & J.Barbour jr were there- 21, We all went to Herndon's Mill to Hunt & fish but did not kill much game- We had plenty of provision & Spirits & about twenty odd in Company. 22, [SUNDAY] Rained a little in morning- we all went to C.Taylor's- J.Taylor jr. returned last night from Maj'r Hite's, where he had the Smallpox- J.Pendleton, dined at C.Taylor's- I went with some others by Mrs Thomas's & got some Cherries. Col.T.Barbour & family & others were there.
