Status: Needs Review

Winton, Fr. 3rd June / 53

My present education is not encouraging to
religious enjoyment. It is rather unfavorable
to it. The Society I daily met is profane and
unreligious, that is, thoughtless and heedless [??]
about the great duty to God. There are, and
ever have been since I can remember, wilf-
ulness around and about Winton [??] to al-
llure to the way of vice. A strong christian
influence has never, so far as I know, found
lodgement at or about Winton. Preaching oc-
casionally there has been in the Court House.
There is a meeting house belonging to the [??]
[odist?] on the edge of the village at which they
have a little society. But seem to have produced [??]
effect salutary to genuine religion. One of their [??]
[??] preaches [??} it once a month on
a working day but there is scarcely an [??]
[??] only [??] by two or three. The last time
the preacher was here, no one went. It seems
however not to have been known. This shows
the small interest felt in such importance.
I prefer and desire truly christian people for
my society. O for a shower of heavenly grace
here abouts that I too may partake of the devine
favor.

Winton is a [??] place in [??] interst
and christian duty. It is [??], neglected,
and I fear detested. [??] [??] is my [??]
I could hope that would [??] be an award-
ment. Something to [??] and give a wh-
[??] mortality - a really [??] [??]-
[??]. I wish to live in the way that leads to pease
of soul, and this is under the administration of the
Lord. I want to live in righteousness and peace.
