The same -- Slept till 5 -- had to bounce out, owing to looseness of bowels -- Bed at 6 & slept till nearly 9 -- About town most of day -- Eastern & western dispatches coming in lively, & those from East very contradictory -- Lots of money up about town, argued result & on New York -- Screws too close for comfort in New York -- Home at 9 -- sat down & went to writing letter to Enterprise No 69 -- Took me usual time -- No sleep -- Bed at 5, after mailing it -- writing up this journal, etc -- I paid my taxes today, for the first time in some years -- It was for the

The same -- Slept till 9 AM from 5 -- About town more or less -- Have a bad cold & feel bad -- Have worked too hard lately -- with too little rest or sleep -- AM was at cabin & cooked (boiled) a lot of eggs, & ate my breakfast there -- Election returns very conflicting and unsatisfactory -- Bed at 10 -- feeling miserable -- Rose at 2 & wrote letter to J P Jones, Gold Hill, & sent it off at 4 --
