Clear warm & pleasant -- Washingtons Birthday -- Rose at 11 -- flags up everywhere -- & fluttering from the balconies -- National & [???] Guards paraded finely with full ranks & National Guard Band -- Lots of people in town enjoying holiday -- work as usual -- Hugh Lamb, foreman of all the bonanza mines for several years died at 6:10 this evening of "acute bronchitis" after 4 wks in bed -- 51 yrs old -- Lots of work in office for me -- Through at 2 -- Bed 3

Morning cloudy -- blustering winds & a few snowflakes in the air -- cleared off fine as ever in the PM -- Rode with Supt Lyman down to the [Osbiston?] shaft & took look at the works -- Rode back with him -- Bed 3:30

Same -- A little blustery -- Work as usual -- Through in office at 2 & on way home heard through Gold Hill carrier boys that Frank Currier, the Railroad station agt in G H had just died from pneumonia -- Bed at 3 --
