$25 from Fair -- Circus -- My 58th Birthday

Thursday July 21

Same-- 80 deg -- My 58th birthday -- No unusual circumstance marked the occasion, except a letter from Hon Jas G Fair, San Francisco, in response to my last letter to his --Very pleasant response and enclosing a $20 and a $5 greenback -- I sent the $5 to Reno by evening train to wife, with strict direction to take the children to the big Robinson Circus from the East, which shows in Reno tomorrow -- to be here Saturday -- Sent the letter by Barrett the stone cutter, whose place of work is opposite our place -- Bed at 1 -- [lines erased]

Same 80 deg -- Old John Robinson's big circus from the East arrived this morning in good style -- Big parade in street at 11 AM -- Didnt fully come up to previous circus parades in last 2 or 3 years, but was exceedingly good -- Got free ticket at Enterprise office and went in evening -- Circus in old place in Alexander's cow yard, 1/2 mile below C st and three half miles coming up back -- Big crowd -- fully 5000 -- Performance fully up to the average -- Was about town after the circus -- Bed at 2 --

Sunday July 24

Same -- At home cleaning up, etc, till 3 PM, when I went down town -- At Post office found letter from Wife, enclosing little note from Alfie, also rec'd nice letter from M Carey in response to the one I sent him a week ago, with my legislative Pioneer pamphlet -- Wrote & sent a letter to wife, by the evening express train at 4:45 PM -- its time of departure -- Was about town awhile -- Home at 11:30 -- Read and wrote -- Bed at 2 -- The circus went to Carson, where it plays tomorrow -- The regular monthly meeting of the Pioneers was held this evening at the hall -- Only five present including myself. I presided for the first time, being duly installed, without

ceremony -- Vice President S D Baker called the meeting to order and presided till I took my seat in his place, as President -- Did a little unimportant business, and when we adjourned, Otto Eckelmann of the Capital Rotisserie, one of the members present took us to a saloon & treated us, then to his rotisserie where he treated us to hot coffee and baked beans -- Delavan, Baker and myself, Lee McGown, Secy, having goneback to his office,he being Under Sheriff, jailer etc -- Four constites a quorum at our meetings, now, so we had rather of a slim crowd at this the

Pioneers -- Base Ball Match

first regular monthly meeting under my Presidency -- The Resolute base ball club of this city went down to Carson today and played a match game with the Amateurs

Monday July 25 Clear & pleasant -- 80 deg -- Wrote 4 pages good letter to Hon Jas G Fair & got it off by evening train -- About town some -- Bed 12

Same -- PM rode down to Gold Hill on 'bus -- GH looks beautiful with its numerous green and thrifty trees -- Found lots of old friends, of course, -- My principal business was with John Jones Jr, the druggist -- Owe him $160 -- offered him 500 shares Centennial, he to give me $150 and this square accounts -- He will consider the proposition -- Rode home on the bus at 6 -- 35 cts round trip -- single

fare 25 cents either way -- Evening down town -- Met and affiliated with Trowbridge Ward ("Tro" Ward) -- Old timer here -- Morton, Rawson, Higby, et al always use to speak of him, but I never made his personal acquaintance till now -- about 2 years older than myslf --Home at 12 -- Wrote etc, Bed at 1 --

Same -- About town -- Sent long letter to wife -- Received one from her enclosing one from Bro Sam to her, and a birthday card to me from Sister Cornelia -- Bed at 1 -- Big pipe for C & C milling work through Taylor st, crossed C st today -- 16 inch -- Laid about 2 1/2 ft deep, from top to surface --

Same -- PM down to Gold HIll, Trade with Jones on Centennial not decided upon by him -- Evening about town, with Hugh Mohan, et al -- Bed 1 --

Saturday July 30

Same -- About town -- Sent letter to wife, & recd one from her. Also wrote letters to send to David Bixler, San Francisco, about T B Storer, who is sick & destitute at Benicia, Cal, Dr E B Harris, San F, and T E Picotte, Wood River Times, Hailey, Idaho -- relataive to getting more of my pamphlets in addition to the 4 I sent him from Carson. Bed at 1 -

Same -- Hot -- 82 degrees -- 90 or 93 has been the highest this season in Va -- about town most of day & evening -- Bed at 12 -- Nobody ever suffers from sunstroke here and thermometer rarely gets above 90º -- Never to 100,
