Rode to G.H. on noon 'bus -- Trustee meeting of the Centennial -- audited November bills & levied another assessment of 3 cents -- Walked home at 6 -- Bed 2 -- From RK Allen, Manager, I received this morning my official contract as soliciting agent of the Bankers and Merchants Insurance Co for and throughout this state --

Sunday Dec 18

Same -- About town -- Wrote & sent letter to Miss Julia A Lewis, Austin, about death of Charley Simmons who died there on the 2nd -- She was his mistress -- This letter was in reply to one she wrote me a few days ago on same subject -- Evening down town awhile -- Bed at 12 --

Life Insurance First Blood on Insurance

Clear & pleasant -- At noon, in the Fountain Saloon under the Fredrich House, courner of C and Union streets I wrote my town first applications for insurance -- for Hiram Crandell, and Alfred McCausland -- the first for $2,000 & the other for $3,000 -- Took & left them respectively with Dr Parker, and Dr Webber -- for examination of the subjects -- Will get no money on them till the 1st of next month -- Evening down to Gold Hill & secured other insurance -- Walked down & back -- Bed at 2 --
