Wednesday Nov 30

Same -- Evening at home fixed up an undershirt after a style I have studied out -- double on the back and down to the elbows, & single in front -- Bed 2 --

Thursday Dec 1

Heavily cloudy -- PM & evening intermittent snow squalls, settling down to a good square snow storm that deposited about 6 inches before midnight -- Didn't effect much today -- Bed at 1 -- Several cutters were out this evening, enjoying the first sleighing of the season --

Friday Dec 2

Same -- About 6 inches of snow this morning -- grocery wagons on runners, but not the Gold Hill 'bus -- as the sleighing was not good at GH. Evening at Opera House --

Natural Gas Comedy Co 1st Electric Light on the Comstock

Play "Natural Gas" by the Gilbert, Donnelly & Girard farce comedy company -- Very amusing -- no plot -- only lots of good fun -- About 1/2 of a house --

Saturday Dec 3

Cloudy, with occasional, light falls of snow -- Sleighing pretty fair yet along B & C streets -- I accomplished nothing today -- Evening the electric light was exhibited for the first time for public use in this city -- In the Delta saloon, and also sidewalk lamp in front of the Old [Magnolia?] saloon -- Attracted much attention -- Been in use for about a week at the new Chollar mill & the Chollar, Norcross

Cloudy with strong SW winds in the PM -- Bed 2 --

Monday Dec 5

Clear and pleasant -- Several more electric lights exhibited in business houses along C st this evening -- Frank Mayo & most excellent Dramatic Co in "Nordeck" tonight at Opera House -- I attended -- good house and first rate play -- Bed 2 --

Tuesday Dec 6

Cloudy & thawy with a light sprinkle of snow about noon -- About town -- Evening, Mayo & Co in 6 set drama of "The Royal Guard" -- Excellent -- Fair house -- Bed 2 -- Mayo's engagement closed -- (See last page)

About town awhile -- Evening mostly at home -- Bed 2 -- A letter from the Centennial

The Centennial Shut Down Catheters State Fair Play

says the mine has been shut down since about the 1st instant by reason of the early and severe winter over there -- It will keep shut down for the Winter or till early next Spring --

Clear & pleasant -- Taggart today paid me $10 as compensation in full, for my ser-

Same -- Rec'd package of 1 doz catheters from H P Wakelee & Co, druggists, San F sent for last Saturday -- Tried them & found only three good and serviceable -- Evening about town -- Mail 3 hours late -- More [Pelton wheels?] etc were expected & arrived -- Meanwhile the dynamo arrangement for the electric light were dismantled in order to get these expected wheels in position in order to run two more dynamos -- The result was that the various electric lights about town failed altogether

Same -- PM I attended funeral of Vincent Elliot and old Comstocker -- Italian --About 60 years old -- from his residence on South F or G st & the Catholic church -- About a dozen carriages -- I rode on the driver's seat of 1st one, with his wife & 2 daughters -- inside following the hearse -- Evening about town -- Bed at 2 -- PM Exempt election -- I attended --

More Sleighing Life Insurance Tough Chicken & Fried Oysters

Monday Dec 12

Cold & raw with snow blizzards from the northward -- Three or four inches of snow fell, giving pretty fair sleighing which was taken advantage of by grocery deliverers etc -- PM I was about town -- Evening at theater -- I breakfasted with Jim Bell, brother of Frank Bell, at the Capitol Rotisserie -- on the toughest chicken I ever tackled -- broiled -- after the theater I supped with Jim Lowery at the French Rotisserie, on fried fresh shell oyster -- delicious -- Bed 3 --

Tuesday Dec 13

Clear & freezing -- Was about town -- Evening same Co at the Opera House, played "The White Slave" to a slim audience -- I was there with Jim Lowery & Jack Long -- Supped with Jim afterward -- Bed 2 -- RK Allen manager of the Bankers & Merchants Mutual Life Association is in town -- Offers me agency for this State -- May take it --

Catheters Rejected Pleasant Valley Coal Sharley Simmons' death

Same -- About town a little on Insurance -- Bed 12 -- Sent back 1 doz catheters, rejected, to H P Wakelee & Co -- Very cold night -- Got 300 lbs Pleasant Valley coal from T H Smith & Co, Gold Hill, today -- lot per lb --

Rode to G.H. on noon 'bus -- Trustee meeting of the Centennial -- audited November bills & levied another assessment of 3 cents -- Walked home at 6 -- Bed 2 -- From RK Allen, Manager, I received this morning my official contract as soliciting agent of the Bankers and Merchants Insurance Co for and throughout this state --

Same -- About town -- Wrote & sent letter to Miss Julia A Lewis, Austin, about death of Charley Simmons who died there on the 2nd -- She was his mistress -- This letter was in reply to one she wrote me a few days ago on same subject -- Evening down town awhile -- Bed at 12 --

Life Insurance First Blood on Insurance

Monday Dec 19

Clear & pleasant -- At noon, in the Fountain Saloon under the Fredrich House, courner of C and Union streets I wrote my town first applications for insurance -- for Hiram Crandell, and Alfred McCausland -- the first for $2,000 & the other for $3,000 -- Took & left them respectively with Dr Parker, and Dr Webber -- for examination of the subjects -- Will get no money on them till the 1st of next month -- Evening down to Gold Hill & secured other insurance -- Walked down & back -- Bed at 2 -
