on F st, south of Taylor -- Name, Fraser -- Still another case near there was also reported this evening but not substantiated -- General Mathewson fell down the stairs from the 2nd story, leading out into F street, broke his left arm near the wrist -- Cut his head badly on an iron railing in falling & rolled onto the sidewalk insensible -- Mike Heney of Gold Hill, a miner called to see me at my room about 8 oclock, relative to a mean article which might get some believers in the Evening Report of the 16th and which had been attributed to me -- We parted amicably -- Evening about town -- Bed at 2 -- Clear & cold -- 20 above zero --

In Feb 29 entry there is a conflict in spelling: Mattheson in key word list and Mathewson in diary entry.
Do we have formatting options - for example: to underline publications (as done in diary)?
Another example - how to indicate a degree sign (as in 20 degrees). I noted in prior typed sections it read 20d. In this section there is a superscript o. Or maybe this will all be sorted on final edit... Just wondering.
Good questions -- the correct spelling is Mathewson. You can always check the Clark edition at dotendiaries.org if there is a question, browsing to the date or searching the word with both spellings. I don't know how Jaffe managed to use a superscript using a typewriter -- but we are leaving out all formatting like underlining, italics, superscripts, even accent marks to keep the coding simple for the web. We'll sort it out and standardize it in the final edit, so you can use deg. or degrees or 20d. It will make sense in context.
