Clear & pleasant -- U S Dist Court Judge Hawley, in session and trial of J E Jones proceeding -- Prosecution continued -- I reported to Journal, as usual -- Bed 1 --

Tuesday March 10

Same, trial report, etc -- Fred Sargent in very bad condition, & will die --

Wednesday March 11

Same -- also trial report, etc -- Letter from Wife inclosing one from Bessie -- Also one from P J Keyes, Va -- Our suit laid over till April -- Fred Sargent died at 2:30 PM today -- Been under morphine since last evening, and passed away quiet and easy -- age 58 yrs and 6 months -- native of Newburyport, Mass. Taken to undertakers -- funeral at 2 PM tomorrow -- Henry Schneider's daughter, Stella, sister to Lily was married this PM to Chas E Peters of Carson -- Left on evening train for Cal on honeymoon trip -- I saw them off--
