Variable, more pleasant -- The South Dakota regiment went through about 12 oclock last night -- with a wild whoop -- hurrah -- Didn't stop long -- Frost and ice in various parts of town this morning -- University windup today -- Most business places in town closed to attend University windup today & big crowds of people went -- I footed over there -- The exercises were held in the gymnasium -- crowded and interesting -- Raising new flag on the new flagstaff -- 107 ft high -- with dedication exercises very enthusiastic & American -- 23 students, including seven girls graduated -- My boy Sam, president of the graduating class -- Each received their diplomas -- Reno Guard attended -- also the GAR vets -- Was about town and home at 5 PM -- Wrote letter to Black Cat, acknowledging receipt of reject M.S.S. and telling them to send the other 1 yr subscription to Bessie -- as I am entitled to two & they only sent one -- Bessie T Doten, West Side, Santa Clara Co, Cal -- Schley's big victory corroborated and great details given -- Bed 11 -- clear & cold --

Same -- just before noon the new troop of Nevada Volunteer Calvalry 83 in number, including the three officers arrived on the local passenger train from Carson in special car, bound for Cheyenne, where with the other Nevada Calvalry Co they join and be attached to a regiment, to be ordered to
