The same -- Skirmished on mining items -- out to Savage office & elsewhere -- got my report in at 8 -- Then went up to Opera House to report Father Upchurch's reception -- He is founder of the A.O.U.W and arrived from San Francisco this morning -- Theatre densely crowded -- Fully 1500 people present -- Biggest crowd I ever saw in a Comstock hall -- Addresses, music, singing a silver brick presented by the AOUW & ball wind-up -- Fine affair -- got through in office at 1/4 of 2 -- Home, read awhile -- Bed 5 --

Clear & warm -- Hot -- 85 deg -- Rose at 11 -- PM, reported Board of Country Commissioners -- Through in office at 1:30 Bed at 2:30 --

Sunday Aug 2

The same -- 86 deg -- Hottest of the season -- Rose at 6 -- shaved etc -- Took train at 7:20 for Reno -- At Steamboat the thermometer scored 97 in the shade -- Reno at 11:30 -- Good dinner at home -- All right -- PM staid at home -- Sat on front porch with wife & mother & the children -- coolest place we could find -- Our thermometer stood at just even 100 -- wilted collars badly -- After sunset much cooler -- Wife & children & I walked out together -- Then wife & I went to depot at 8, & saw
