Monday Aug. 3
Clear and hot- AM a little cloudy, but sultry- About as hot this PM as yesterday- Rose at 6- Packed my journal books and some more boots etc. into my old valise- got a dragmen to take it to the train for me- Wife went to depot with me- Met Powning there- Says he sold my ticket from here to Osden for $25 and will "hand the money to Mrs. Doten"- train about 40 minutes late, in starting, owing to train from California being late- Matt Gillespie on train- He is just from Bodie by way of the Mariposa big trees and San Francisco- Doc Kirby got on at Mound
My Journals tken to Va $25 Posning Very Hot
Hot Mel Curtis Dr. Hamond Wife
House and went on to Va- Got my valise taken up by trasfer company wagon (Hyde)- About town muchly- PM mostly in office- At 5PM- Wrote letters to Mr. Hammond-Melville Curtis and wife- Got them off by the 5:25 train- Evening hard at work in office- Col off on another drunk and gamble- Stood little while, this PM and evening in office- Bed at 4- my thermometer in my room stood 77-
Tuesday Aug. 4
Clear, and hot as yesterday and day before- Slept till noon- Evening got through at 1- Home at 1:30- read awhile- Bed at 2:30- Wife got $25 from Powning today, he sold my ticket for-
