July 21, 1863 pg 7

originate so I will close as I used to
in my love letter when I was about twelve
years old, --

My pen is poor
My ink is pale
My hand trembles like a little dogs -- narrative,

I made a mistake in writing that
but it doesn't make much difference.

Harry I am ashamed of myself
for making fun of you your kind words
and to atone I will now write some that
are pretty, and quite applicable --

Fare thee well! yet think awhile
On one whose bosom bleeds to doubt thee;
Who now would rather trust thy smile,
And die with thee, than live without thee.

How does that do? -- Shall be pleased
to hear again -- Yours truly, Nellie V.
