Tuesday August 3rd Morning in sewing -- Mrs. Joseph Hudson, her children, and MIss Graves called. Carrie and I started off after six o'colock P.M. and made five calls before dark. --- Father was called up this morning at 3 o'clock to attend Mr. Potter's son a young man about 22 who was dying of the consumption. he died at seven o'colock. --- Carrie and I went out shopping immediately after breakfast.

Wednesday. Rainy. Miss Hagby was here all day making up a silk dress for me. Carrie and I sewed with her and had the pleasure of seeing it finished by five P.M. It was very pretty and prettily made.

Young Mrs Patten was buried this afternoon. Father officiated. The rain prevented my attendance. Wrote in my journal in the evening.

Thursday. Fine day. Was very [smart?] as I find I must in order to be ready to leave home next week. Ironed in the morning and sewed in the afternoon. At 2.P.M. Father and Mother left us to spend a couple of days at West Hills. So Carrie and I had to keep house, a charge we have never undertaken before but with Millie's assistance we managed nicely. Dear little Millie, what should we do without him? He knows more about cooking than even I and besides we being in much a hurry about our sewing, so we let him take the principal care of that department, taking care however that he did not do too much

For roman numerals following symbols that indicate amount, i.e., j=1, ij=2, iij= 3, v=5, type arabic numeral in brackets following roman numeral: i [1], ii [2], iii [3], v [5].
Line Breaks: Hit return once after each line ends. Two returns indicate a new paragraph, which is usually indentation following the preceding sentence in the original. The times at the end of each entry should get their own paragraph, since the software does not support indentation in the transcriptions.
Illegible text: Indicate illegible readings in single square brackets: [Dr?]
A single newline indicates a line-break in the original document, and will not appear as a break in the text in some views or exports. Two newlines indicate a paragraph, and will appear as a paragraph break in all views.
