At 4:45 a.m. I am up and can’t sleep, but I
am [strikethrough] not so unwell as [/strikethrough] better than last night, at least temporarily
I had to get up and made coffee (out
of twenty five coffeebeans!) You see, these are my
newly acquired bad habits, which will disable
me in future for family life.

At 11 a.m. a rather quick and rather noisy
raid over Bpest, but [strikethrough] second [/strikethrough] other airraid warnings,
[strikethrough] in [/strikethrough] over other parts of country too.

I was so absorbed in [on] compiling a memorandum
[strikethrough] in [/strikethrough] over Mrs. Forrai’s [strikethrough] case [/strikethrough] behalf to the protecting
power, I scarcely noticed sirens and
all the usual paraphernalia, where the [strikethrough] flack [/strikethrough] noise
and detonations [strikethrough] by dropped bombs [/strikethrough] began,
I had to hurry up with bath and [strikethrough] dressing up [/strikethrough] getting dressed.
At 11:20 a.m. all is quiet.

Same night. I was late for my [strikethrough] med. Work [/strikethrough] office hours
because of the raid. Going down [strikethrough] wards [/strikethrough] the hillside
three big and dark columns of smoke rose, one
east, one south and one westwards. Even looking
from here the half sky- a brilliant, clear
day it began- was covered with dark, grey smoke.
