March 11, Sunday Our daily life is [strikethrough] but gambling [/strikethrough] a gamble. We live not only from hand to mouth but from one moment to the other. The morning I was out of fuel, later I got from Klári Bálint some pieces of wood, so I could light a fire and cook my meal of noodles in the stove. Coffee will be prepared too, as this week I got some from a patient: for five or six calls: about seven dks of coffee beans. I opened my last [strikethrough] tin [/strikethrough] can of veal-pörkölt, Frédi’s father brought over, pity, it is an inferior quality, it tastes [strikethrough] after the [/strikethrough] as tin box, it can not be properly enjoyed. – I told you, all money was taken from me, since then I have earned about thousand Ps. from this today I gave five hundred to Klári B., to buy some food on the other side. Much can’t be expected for this sum, but may be half a kg of sausages, one kg of flour and some eggs will be possible. I suppose she will earn her living by black marketing and this she has to do, as there is not much hope, either for her or Tibor, they could get their former well-paid jobs. They simply have to look something else.
The evening. I have been out to see the Sebestyéns, in much improved spirits. I took some coffee [strikethrough] for [/ strikethrough] to them, their servant on the other hand gave me cigarettes. She has a lot, I am going exchange your black woollen georgette tailor made for some more. Have seen Mici Adorján too, she is 59 kg (used to be over 70), is working bravely, Zsu too. Back home with a basketful of twigs and kindling. Tired but a bit refreshed.
