Governor William Spry Utah

Dear Sir

I see by the daily papers that Joe Hill is to be murdered by your state upon circumstantial evidence of the weakest kind. I hope it will be a pleasure to you not to allow this miscarriage of justice.

I hope also that you are not fixed in your mind to believe that workingmen are always going to allow there class to be murdered by another class in order to Hold them in subjection. Yor for Progress

Oswago, Ore. R #L August 6, 1914.

To the Governor of Utah,

Dear Sir,-

In the name of all that is fair and just, I hereby protest against the execution of Joe Hill of Salt Lake City who has been sentenced to die Sept. 3rd.

It is a grave and serious matter to deliberately take a fellow-man's life, and I do not believe the eivdence in this case such as to warrant this step. I firmly believe him to be innocent, and the victim of an unfortunate chain (a very weak one at that) of circumstances. If he is legally deprived of his life it will be nothing short of cold-blooded murder.

Yours in the name of humanity, Bessie T. Howard
