Oswago, Ore. R #L
August 6, 1914.

To the Governor of Utah,

Dear Sir,-

In the name of all that is fair and just, I hereby protest against the execution of Joe Hill of Salt Lake City who has been sentenced to die Sept. 3rd.

It is a grave and serious matter to deliberately take a fellow-man's life, and I do not believe the eivdence in this case such as to warrant this step. I firmly believe him to be innocent, and the victim of an unfortunate chain (a very weak one at that) of circumstances. If he is legally deprived of his life it will be nothing short of cold-blooded murder.

Yours in the name of humanity,
Bessie T. Howard
