January 8, 1916.
Mr. Matthew McLain,
Box 531,
Boise, Idaho.
My dear Mr. McLain:-
Please accept this tardy acknowledgment
of your cordial letter of November 22nds,
and my sincere apology for not replying thereto
before now. I have been so pressed for time that
it has been impossible to reach the accumulation of
mail on my desk. Your loyal and patriotic sentiments
are deeply appreciated and it has been a
source of great satisfaction to me to receive words
approbation from my friends and those who are
for the maintainence of law and order. I was subjected
to a most vicious campaign of intimidation
in connection with this case but I attempted merely
to do what I thought my plain and simple duty.
With the compliments of the season,
I am
Cordially yours,
Governor.
