Genus Xiphias [underlined] Order Apodes. Head furnished with a long, hard, sword shaped upper-jaw. No teeth. Gill mem brane 8 rayed; body rounded, and has no apparent scales.

Genus Scomber [underlined] Order Thoracci Body smooth; gill membrane 7 rayed Between the dorsal fin and the tail are several small or spurious fins.

Genus Salmo [underlined] Order Abdomenial Two dorsal fins, the hindermost one is fleshy and without rays. Teeth in the jaws & on the tongue; and the body is covered with round and minutely striated scales.

Mouth situated under the head, armed with several rows of serrated sharp pointed teeth of different forms, some of which are fixed and others moveable.
