[Letter from Increase Allen Lapham to Brother?]
Dr. Burroughs called at my
house some time ago, — as usual
when I happened to be away. —
I have written to him that if
prompt payment is made of the
note due June 10th I will deduct,
on account of the great fire, one
half of all the year's interest.

I hear that he has been quite
successful in disposing of a part
of the land, and that he is
now upon a firm basis
financially — hope so, on account
of the important object he has
in view — the Chicago University.
Should you meet him please
present my compliments, & regrets
for failure to meet him when
he called.

I was then in Madison investigating
the matter of the "wind falls" reported by the
surveyors of the public lands — These
show many interesting facts with
regard to tornados [tornadoes] — their frequency
