Dear Charles Edward:
It's quite some time
since I wrote you or heard
from you. Not since Kearny days
in fact — so perhaps a
Christmas letter won't be amiss.
Have been in New York ever since
the end of April, barring two
weeks that I spent with
Miss Noyes in Lynn. Mass.
in July. You didn't go thru
New York, I don't believe, on
your way over. Whom do
you suppose I saw at
the Biltmore Hotel one day —
just before he sailed — our
old friend Austin. He
was about as surprised
to see me as I him.
I finally quit my vaude-
ville job and after doing
nothing for awhile except
calling on a manager every
now and then to see if he
had anything to offer, | CEHBates_Dec1918_004cThurs. Dec. 5 - 1918.
