Friday July 5th '18. Did some good flying with Bauer this morning. He praised my landings very much. I feel pretty good over it. A Sopwith pilot got killed in a fall this morning.

Saturday July 6th '18. One of the "Wops" crashed in landing on his first solo hop. The machine was a total wreck. We haven't much sympathy for the "Wops" as they are supposed to have learned to fly in Italy, and now they

machine and Lillies engine landed right on top of Grub. Grub was caught in the selle with the engine on top of him. We pulled Grub out all whole, but how he escaped "getting it" is more than I can see. The prop missed him head by not more than an inch, and the other blade of the prop was broken off or he would have gotten that square across the back. Right after Grubs accident Larrie Higgins chevalled on the take off of his first solo hop, and got rattled and opened his engine instead of shutting it off and smashed his landing gear and turned turtle in the only space there was between two machines.

Larrie had his nerve with him as he climed into another machine and lachid. His monitor told him that he had better do it before Davidson got ahold of him, as he might radiate him.

Dan Currier had a forced landing on his voyage, and coundn't get over some trees, and had to make a sharp turn and land in a wheat field. He got out of it with a skinned nose. Another fellow hit the top of some trees and turned a somersalt in the air and hit on the nose of his machine. He wasn't hurt. — Herb Kendall walked into camp late tonight after having a forced landing. Herb went up on his last twenty
