Some where in France,

Dearest Marie,

I am well and feeling fine.
I received your letters of June 12 and 28
and certainly was glad ot hear from
you. We are back in the lines again but
this a quiet sector and we have a good
dug out. I am writing this letter just
out side the dug out under a shelter
to keep us hidden from air-planes. It
is on the edge of a little wood and is
a pretty quiet spot. We have our pets
the rats in our dug out and lots of cooties.
We make war on the cooties every
day because if we didn't they would
soon have us eat up. We saw a couple
of cats in the woods and tried to
catch them to put in our quaters
but could not get with in a mile
of them. They do not walk in like
