Fri JULY 19. A lovely day. We finished the piece of corn north of the house. Lew went through the garden patches down in the orchard and Bert and I hoed a while in the piece towards the barn.

JULY 20. Sat As nice as one could wish. We finished hoeing out the piece towards the barn then hoed the rest of the forenoon in the popcorn. Then in the afternoon we went up to Windy Hill and hoed out the punkins [pumpkins] and worked the rest of the afternoon cleaning out the squashes.

Thurs JULY 25. A very nice day. I cut the two little pieces of alfalfa near the barn and mowed around the edges with a scythe in the forenoon and the boys worked at taking off the poles and putting on wire from the house south to the lake and in the afternoon we replaced the two bottom poles with one wire clear around to the S E corner of the NW cornfield then put one on the south side of it.

JULY 26. Fri Nice as ever but getting pretty dry. Mother Lill and I went to the Crous and Show. Saw a fine collection of animals and a very good circus performance. Lew put up the hay that I cut yesterday and to night him and Meda have gone to the circus. Bert went over last night and made a day of it to day.

Sat JULY 27. Clear only very smoky and pretty warm 99° in the shade. We went to hauling poles that we took off from the outside fence and had as much as 3 loads of good ones and full as many of poles that will do for stays and wood. I got out stays awhile this afternoon then let out some water and started in on the buckwheat. Lew went up to the hills this afternoon.

JULY 28 Sun Nice and quite comfortable had a small stream of water running onto the buckwheat patch and it seems to be spreading over the ground very nicely. We kept Sunday some. I went to Mr Goodans this morning. He is to come to cut our wheat Tuesday. Lew got home this afternoon. The blamed cows hooked Maude last night. She died about noon to day. I went with Mr Smith to see his place. I think his prospects fine for a good crop.
