AUGUST 20. Tues Quite pleasant and not quite so hot. The boys finished the alfalfa stacking this forenoon then Will went home and Lew was getting ready to go to Greeley and him and Meda started to night and went as far as Dotts's I expect. This afternoon Bert and I plowed out some of the truck patches and done some hoeing in the melon patch etc.

AUGUST 21. Wed Fine as ever. Bert and I worked at the timber claim this forenoon. We made a bank along inside of the south fence most of the way and some of it is quite high. In the afternoon we worked at cleaning out the ditch that is fed from the head gate near basin rocks. Didnt get the dike done though.

AUGUST 22. Thurs As nice as usual. We finished the dyke and put in the most of the ballance [balance] of the day mowing alfalfa with the scythe about the ditches so as to commence cutting with the machine. I set the water to running over in Howards alfalfa field at noon but it is rather a small quantity.

AUGUST 23. Fri Same kind of weather that we have been enjoying for the last sometime. Pretty warm and dry. Lew and Meda has not got home from Greeley yet. Bert and I finished hoeing out the melon patch then fixed up the horse rake and after that ground 4 sickles and attended to the irrigating. Mrs Stevens Mrs Dwire and Mrs Thornton were here and made us a visit.

AUGUST 24. Sat Lovely for the time of year. Lew and Meda got home along in the afternoon. They report seeing lots of grain and alfalfa between this and Greeley and they found Mrs Bartlett and Marnie all right and left then in the same fix. We commenced cutting the seed alfalfa to day. got along pretty well. Mr Dixon and Bert and Lew after he came three hands can keep up good.

AUGUST 25. Sun Nice again to day and cloudy some of the time. Charleys folks all but Bert went with Meother [Mother] Lew and me up to the mountain ranch. We found thing [things] looking pretty fair and so is the stock up there but the water seems to be getting rather scarce at several of the springs. We rented the George Casey place to a Mr Waltham. He is to give $ 250/100 pr [per] month after the first one. Rented the Geo Casey place to Mr Waltham.

AUGUST 26. Mon Another nice one and pretty warm too. Mr Dixon and Lew and Bert and I worked at the seed alfalfa and I think that we got along pretty well too for poor folks. There was a man here by the name of Flecks from near Boulder a getting some fruit for the North Park Market. He got and weighed out eleven dollars and thirty five cents worth.

AUGUST 27. Tues Pretty warm and dry as ever. We myself Mr Dixon Lew and Bert amused ourselves at the seed alfalfa and we seemed to get along very well but there is quite a lot to cut yet.

AUGUST 28. Wed I E [same] as yesterday Mr Dixon myself L [Lew] and Bert worked at the seed alfalfa. Got most through cutting that that is ripe enough to cut. Just now there is a little water in the Larimer Co ditch but Mr Balcam says that we must not use in for irrigation until day after tomorrow. We are getting a small head to night through the Dry Creek ditch.

AUGUST 29. Thurs Another of them warm dry days. We finished cutting the seed alfalfa that is ripe enough this morning. Them Mr Dixon and Lew went to hauling. They hauled 6 loads to day. Bert and I cleaned off some place for stacks then came to the house and ground sickles until noon then Bert went to help haul and I rigged up the machine and cut the piece north of the barn then irrigated on Johns hill.
