OCTOBER 9. Quite nice again to day threatened rain right smart just about dark and it thunders a good deal yet. I fixed the granery in the forenoon and in the afternoon went to town to take the Denver butter over. The men left the machine running pretty steady all day and moved it over by the house just before night.

OCTOBER 10. Fine again to day. I mowed over on John Howards place with Sue and Sade. They done well and we got quite a beginning made. The threshing crew think that they have done the best days work to day that they have or will do this year. They say that they have threshed 75 bushels to day. There is one small stack to thresh yet.

OCTOBER 11. A little cooler to day and cloudy part of the time. The machine left this morning after threshing out one small stack. It made some 18 or 19 bushels. So we have 172 bushels and 47 lbs after the machine was gone. Lew and Will hauled down that little load of hay and put the alfalfa seed in the grainery. I mowed again to day got along fine.

OCTOBER 12. Pretty nice early but got squally soon after noon and was cloudy and windy the rest of the day. I mowed in the forenoon and Lew went and got the coal that was not used in threshing out the alfalfa seed and then went to town and in the afternoon we fixed around a little towards getting ready to stack the alfalfa and making a place to build a cow stable. [along right side from bottom:] We make 174 bush [bushels] and 46 lbs alfalfa seed.

OCTOBER 13. Sun A cloudy sour kind of a day and drizzled a little a good share of the time. Lew went with Mr Lewis a ducking. They got 8 of them. The rest of us spent Sunday quite scrupiously.

OCTOBER 14. Mon Didnt rain to day but was somewhat cloudy and quite cool. Lew went to town this forenoon and I fixed up some bars for the hay carrell [corral]. Then in the afternoon we ground the four mower sickles and one of the axes and I put a new handle into it. Then we went up to the Windy hill and got some oats that the huller got out of the alfalfa.

OCTOBER 17. Thurs As nice as a lady all day. Lew and I hauled the pop corn and put it into the cornfield that is the North West corner of the place. Then we shucked out some corn for the hogs. Then Lew hauled a load of manure and I went to work at the new wagon rack.

OCTOBER 18. Fri Pretty nice again to day but looks rather ominous for rain to night. Mr Dixon and Will tried to haul hay to day but it is not dry enough yet after lying over a week. Lew hauled manure onto the orchard mostly to day together with some other little jobs. I worked at the wagon rack.
