OCTOBER 29. Tues Quite a big rain and ended up with a snow storm. It rained about 4½ or 5 inches. We done the chores in the forenoon and that was all in the afternoon went to town the roads were pretty muddy. Mr Marsh had a letter from Dr Larimer wanting him to sell his part of the alfalfa seed and send him the money after leaving out seed enough to pay us 40 dollars for tending the timber claim.

OCTOBER 30. Wed Variable weather to day [today] but cool most of the time. Lew made an unsuccessful hunt for Billy in the forenoon. I fixed up the wagon and rack and after Lew got home we hauled a load of hay from the stack over in the hill piece. It began to snow after dark.

OCTOBER 31. Thurs Found as much as 5 inches of wet snow on the ground this morning and it has made weeping willows of the fruit trees and other trees too. I helped do the chores in the morning and that is all that I have done to day [today]. Lew has attended to the horses cattle chickens and hogs and hunted some and that has kept him quite busy.

NOVEMBER 1. Fri Clear as crystal all day and thawed enough to make it awful muddy but dont show much bare ground yet. Lew went to town with the butter and put in the day at it. I cleaned off the snow from the stacks and stable and fixed the fence around grain and hay stacks.
