Tues July 4th Another hot dry day. For a fourth of July celebration we went up to Charleys to a sort of a picnic gathering of the relatives and friends. We had a splendid dinner and a real good time generally. Joe Weedman staid [stayed] and looked after the house and things and mowed the orchard.

Wed July 5 Hot and dry. I tried to mow on the 10 acre piece but it is so dry and gumy [gummy] that I had to take the sickle out and clean it about once in half an hour and it took less than 3/4 an hour to clean it. The boys went over to C V's and finished up there and this afternoon Lew plowed the potatoes out. Joe raked the orchard and Kib raked up what I cut this forenoon.

Thurs July 6 Just like yesterday only a little more wind. Kib raked for a business on the 10 acre piece. Lew tinkered with the bees a while [awhile] then irrigated potatoes until noon and him and Joe hauled 3 loads of 3 hay from the 10 acre piece this afternoon. Joe mowed the weeds in the apple tree rows in the forenoon. I mowed on the 10 acre piece for a business and got it done. I broke a sickle head to day. That makes two broke on the 10 acre piece.

Fri July 7 Another hot dry day. The boys hauled 6 loads of hay from the 10 6 acre piece. Kib raked on the 10 acre piece and when he got that done he went up and done some raking on the piece this side of the windy hill house. I tinkered a good deal at the machine this morning so I got a late start but I cut the piece this side of the house and about as much further over.

Sat July 8 Hot and dry again. Lew and Joe hauled 3 loads and finished the 10 acre piece. Then they went to the spring Canion [Canyon] ranch to try to get some water for the cattle and horses up there. Kib went to town and after he got home he raked and bunched the hay that I cut yesterday up on the windy hill place.

Sun July 9 Do yesterday. The boys have not got back from the Spring Canion [Canyon] yet so we dont what show they have found no water for the stock up there. Kib kept Sunday and hovered Meda. I went to get the water and found it coming and pretty plenty too and I have been using it to the best of my ability to day since I got it.

Mon July 10 About such a day as we have had for a long time. Lew got back from the Spring Canion [Canyon] ranch brought down Ruby with a big bag and a nice big red steer calf or will be. Lew reports water quite plenty up there but we need troughs and pipes up there.

July 10 continued Joe and Kib hauled 4 loads of hay. I mowed the piece of grain over in the N W corner and attended to lots of irrigating besides. The girls and Ett and her girls picked 96 quarts of cherries to day.

Tues July 11 Hot and very warm and sultry as could be. I cut alfalfa on the windy hill place and done pretty well. Lew and Joe hauled a load of hay and stacked it in the windy hill carrell [corral] and they irrigated the potatoes and some odd chores. Kib raked the hay made of wheat and oats and in the forenoon he wateered [watered] the strawberries.

Wed July 12 Do the boys hauled 5 loads of oats and wheat hay. Kib raked about all day. I mowed in the forenoon and in the afternoon I irrigated and visited with Mr Hoags and Brenningers folks.

Thurs July 13 No better to day. Lew and Joe hauled 2 1/2 loads of oat and wheat hay this forenoon and Lew went to town after Franks folks this afternoon and has gone again to night. Kib raked alfalfa on the windy hill place this forenoon and gleaned the oat and wheat patch this afternoon. I mowed up on the windy hill place this forenoon and this afternoon Joe and I ground 3 sickles and Joe and kib hauled the cleanings and I irrigated lots on the hill and the piece in the corner and 10 acre piece.

Well here it is Fri July 14 and as hot and dry as ever varied by a little wind to day. Frank and Mary and the children got here this forenoon all safe and sound. They had to lay over a time or two and of course were pretty tired but I gues [guess] they are pleased to be with the folks here once more. Lew and Joe hauled 5 loads of hay. Kib raked in the forenoon and picked cherries in the afternoon. Frank raked in the afternoon. I made a rather short day at mowing on account of irrigating.

Sat July 15 Another day like we have had since it got warmed up. Frank mowed in the forenoon and in the afternoon he went to town to get their trunk and things. Lew and Joe hauled hay and Kib helped them in the afternoon or part of it. He raked in the forenoon. I irrigated all day with water from the dry creek over on the hill and with water from the lake on the wheat and oat stubble and with water from the Larimer Co ditch on the 10 acre piece of alfalfa.

Sun July 16 Hot and dry. Lew and Mary and Franks folks went down to Reas's and from what they say I think they had a nice visit. Mother and I staid [stayed] at home and we had a good visit too. I irrigated some from the lake on the wheat and oat stubble ground. The water was shut off from me this morning so now it is all going to Long Pond.

Mon July 17 Hot and dry as ever but to night it is blowing like a [wollycain?] and it thunders loud and lighnings bright and we would expect rain if it was not needed so bad. Lew and Frank hauled 6 loads of hay from the south east piece on windy hill. Kib picked cherries in the forenoon and raked in the afternoon. I mowed all day. I cut the 6 acre piece and about half an acre more.

Tues July 18 A delightful day after the nice little shower that we had last night. About 8 O clock it rained enough to do quite a bit of good. Lew and Frank cleaned up the poles along the outside fence and they made some stays to stay the fence along by the barley piece and this afternoon they hauled 2 loads of hay. Kib helped on the pole and fence doings this forenoon and raked in the afternoon. I mowed this forenoon and worked at spreading and shocking this afternoon.

Wed 19 Thurs 20 and Fri 21 I went to Denier and I took 3 treatments. It does not seem to make me as sore as I was when I went down in June. I found Mr Gores folks about as usual only Mr Gore is very much concerned about this terrible crisis in money matters that the country is now being cursed with thousands of people thrown out of employment and
