Tues Jan 22 A lovely day one of Deitys best
for the time of year. Lew sawed wood some
this forenoon and this afternoon went to town.
Another calf died to day [today]. This was Lews. We have
lost 3 before this. It is supposed to be the black
leg. Lew has just got back says that the vetrenay [veterinary]
surgeon told him that the best remedy for it is
to change them into a dry pasture where they
cant get into any swamps. John went to
school and Dan has not got home yet and I
have jobbed about some to day [today].

Wed Jan 23 Fine again. Dan
went to Frank Sylvesters and took Lews Black
Colt down and put her into a pasture near
Franks. The rest did not do much only to
try to enter tain [entertain] our company. Frank Mary
and their 3 little boys were here Mr and Mrs Cyrus
Buffon [Buffom] and Merideth and Mr CV Howard.
We had lots of good visit.

Thurs Jan 24 Somewhat cooler to
day [today] and cloudy but still Lew went this forenoon to
see the snow place Drove Maud and the mare
colt said she drove nice this afternoon. He
went down to Franks to dehorn some of his
heifers. Dan had a sore throat this morning
but feels better this evening has been sawig [sawing]
wood a little to day [today]. I have not done much but
have worked a little too. Johny went over to town
to attend a lecture on the structure and use
of the various parts of the leg and foot of the
horse.
