Wed July 3 A very nice day but it was pretty warm and it sprinkled a little about noon. Dave went over to Mr Bees this morning but the hay dries so slow that he was not ready for him yet so he helped to hoe strawberries. Will and I hoed strawberries and I irrigated on the piece North of the house.

Thurs July 4 O the glorious fourth it might as well went around Fort Collins for the people were afraid to spend a dime to have a celebration there so they let all of the dimes be spent Elsewhere. Dave went over to Mr Bees but the hay was not fit to rake this morning so he came home. Will went to town but came home a little after noon. I irrigated and put up 4 crates and 97 boxes and then I worked at weeding a while [awhile].

Fri July 5 Fine Dave worked for Mr Bee. Will and I picked strawberries this forenoon and this afternoon Will picked cherries and I irrigated the strawberry vines and finished the piece North of the house and have been running water on to the piece North of the barn and have picked quite a lot of cherries to boot.

July 6 Nice day and pretty warm. Dave worked for Mr Bee. Will went to town this morning and sold 3 crates 2 and 7/14 of cherries and the ballance [balance] were strawberries he sold then and got home while we were at dinner. I worked all day getting things ready to fill the cistern and Will helped me this afternoon and we are about ready only the water is not in yet.

Sun July 7 Pretty nice day but it has grown cold towards night and now it is uncomfortably cold. We had some company Ett and Luther Mull Will Kingland et al

Mon Juy 8 Cold Cloudy and threatning [threatening] but didnt rain or snow. Dave mowed in the ditch below dry creek in the forenoon and worked for Mr Bee this afternoon. Will and I picked three crates of cherries and he took them to town and I mowed some back of the house.

Tues July 9 Cloudy and Cold and it began to rain a little aftenoon and rained a quite a lot. Will picked Cherries. Dave helped Mr Bee. I hoed corn towards the barn.

Wed July 10 Cloudy all day and Rained slowly a considerable part of the time but is raining now quite hard 7.25 PM. We done a few little chores. Will picked the rest of the cherries and some currants. Dave went to town and got the mail. I planted some cherry seeds and hoed some peas and Beans.

Thurs July 11 Cloudy all day and rained a good deal not a bit of sunshine in sight to day [today] and it is raining yet. Dave went to Cushions and Kinglands. Will and I done some grinding of scythes and things.

Fri July 12 It rained hard all night last night I think and has given us some showers to day [today] so that evrything [everything] is thoroughly wet and I think we will get more of it yet soon.

Will done what he could see to do. Dave and I went over to town and I and Lew helped Dr Larimer prove up on his timber claim. I think he will have no difficulty in getting his title all right [alright].

Sat July 13 A pretty good day but awful wet. Dave went up to Spring Canion [Canyon] ranch reports evrything [everything] lovely with plenty to eat and drink. Will and I ground a couple of sickles and put in the two head gates front of the house.

Sun July 14 A very beautiful Nice warm clear day. The reservoir No 4 broke last night and the moist wet water prevailed Evrywhere [Everywhere]. We worked at fixing up the ditch around the lake a spell this morning then fixed up and went over to Lews and Mrs Bartlett will stay there for a day or two. We had a nice visit and got home in good time.

Mon July 15 Clear and warm and still. O how things are growing these days. The boys plowed corn all day. I fixed the spouts and things ready to fill the cistern this forenoon and this afternoon hoed some found the speckled heifer with a light red bull calf. Meda is to get home to night [tonight] from Denver and Will has gone over after her.

Tues July 16 Fine and pretty warm. The boys finished plowing the corn and Will went to town and got him a suit of clothes. We hoed the rest of the time except that I fixed up a box to haul chickens in.

Wed July 17 Not much of a hay day to day [today] it was pretty warm on an average but it rained a little and thundered lots. We J E Will and I hoed a while [awhile] this forenoon and this afternoon picked currants. Dave went to town this morning with 17 chickens sold them to Mr Schreader at 3 dollars pr [per] dozzen [dozen]. He was well pleased with them then he picked currants awhile and went to town with some currants and got some crate stuff and stuff for 100 boxes.

Thurs July 18 Nice all day it thundred [thundered] a little through but it didnt scare any. We picked two crates of currants and Dave took then [them] to Evans's. Will and I hoed corn and potatoes. After Dave got home he hoed a little while.

Fri July 19 Nice growing day but not a good hay day for it threatened a good deal and rained a little. We finished hoeing the piece below the orchard but didnt much else.

Sat July 20 Nice looking this morning but pretty rainy looking by noon and this afternoon it has rained a good deal. Will went to town this morning with the butter etc. got home a little before noon. Dave and I mowed in the orchard and door yard this forenoon and this afternoon have been waiting for it to clear up.

Sun July 21 It has been cloudy mostly and has rained quite a bit and at two or three times. We kept Sunday tolerably well but looked around some about the ditches and the rocky ridge lake.

Mon July 22 Cloudy most of the day and it rained some at diverous [diverse] times but only a little. We picked two crates of currants for Mr Horner and two crates of cherries for several people and this afternoon Dave took them to town and has not got back yet. Will mowed some down in the orchard and I hoed strawberry vines some.

Tues July 23 Cloudy in the fore part of the day but it cleared off after while and now looks as though it intended to behave better. Dave went over to town with Mrs Bartlett and plowed and done some other odd jobs in the afternoon. Will went over to town to meet his Mother and John but they didnt meet so he came home and this afternoon hoed. I hoed and mowed and mowed and hoed and mowed. Kate O Laughlan and a Shafer girl were drowned near the headgate of the Larimer and Weld reservoir this forenoon about ten O clock.

Wed July 24 A delightful Colorado day. Clear warm and Still in fact a splendid hay day. Dave worked for Mr Bee. Will worked at howing [hoeing] and mowing in the forenoon and for Will Dixon in the afternoon. I put in the day at howing [hoeing] and trimming Raspberries and mowing. Harry and Annie Dixon are here to night [tonight].
