Jackson Miss June 1st 1864

Honble Sir

I have the honor herewith respectfully to submit for your consid-eration my application for permission and authority from you to organize the Deputy Sheriffs of Hinds County into a Military Company. There are fifty four of these deputies in Hinds, most of whome are strong able bodied men, and capable of doing good service. This application is made with the consent of the Sheriff and the [culling?] assent of the Deputies—I purpose to muster in to the service of the state (in addition to the deputies) as many as fifty, no Conscripts, thereby reporting a full company—The company— [unclear]— to operate west of Jackson at the same time throughly patrolling the different precincts in the County, and always having a sufficent number of the company accessible to the Sheriff. I feel that I could accomplish a great deal of good and render services very valuable to that portion of our Country, as I am will acquainted with the County west of Jackson and East of Big Black— Having been on duty at the Post of Jackson since July 1863, as Provost Marshal I feel safe
