The Governor of the State of Mississippi.
I to-day visited the cell of a young man na-med Nelson, Convicted of murder in this County and sentenced to be hung on Friday next.
He seems to be truly penitent for the wickedness of his past life; but is in an unfortu-nate state of mind, through ignorance of God's laws and God's mercy, that is truly distressing.
Can you not delay his execu-tion for a time? If only a month or two? I ask this favor, for a wretched man,
