A Receipt For the euill called the kings euill

Take a handfull of Yarrow, as much of Coltsfoote and an
handfull of sene, of Raisons dates and blew figgs of each a
quarter of a pounde, one ounce of Rubert one peniworth of
licorish and as much of Anniseeds, boyle all these in a
gallon of ale till it come to a pottle;

A perfect way to cure the kings
euill

First how to know whether the party is curable

IF the temples bee clamy & the fingers end apt to cleaue
to the temples when it is touch tis suspicious the partys past cure
wch will further by due observinge the eurin on the toppe of wch
shall bee seene flotinge one two or 3 greenish drops of oyle
then the longs are corrupted & past cure if the liver bee
foule that will appeare by the partys complaint of a paine in his
right side & by a reddish gritt settlinge in the eurinne then itt
is curable wherefore proceede thus

Take a small spoonefull of the best treakle mingle itt with
two spoonefulls of white wine this quantity is to bee taken thus
3 mornings & then rest one or two then 3 mornings more
for 14 or 18 dayes after this for 14 or 18 dayes more take this
diet drinke followinge

The Diet Drinke

Take Egrimony Mugwort Smallige Liuerwort Knottgrasse
Bettanny Hartstongue Hounds tongue Colefoot of each one
handfull Razons of the Sunne stoned halfe a pound Currans
one quarter of a pound Aniseeds beaten one spoonefull 8 or 12
Figgs English Liquoras one oz boyle all these in 6 quarts
of runninge water or else in 8 quarts of small wort boyle
away one quarter & then straine itt euery morninge drinke
a small draught & fast an houre after itt if the swellinge
bee not broken into sores use this salue followinge

The Salue

Take the Inner rinde of Elderne fallerine Hysop Mallowes
Sage Bulsan of each one handfull chop them small in halfe a
pound of fresh buttur without salt & a pound of sheepes suitt
& one quarter of a pound of Virgins wax One quarter of a
pound of barrows grasse & 2 oz of Rozin boyle them to=
geather softly a bout one quarter of an houre streyne itt &
stirre itt till itt is cold twice every day dresse the sores with
this salue if yw feare worms to breed on the sores take a
sea crabbe & parboyle then bake itt & powder itt mingle the
powder wth the oyle of Eggs: oyle of Woormwood powder of
frankinsense & wth a feather anoint the wounds before

A Medicine For the toothach, Mr Dingly

put a Dead Toade in a box full of holes, & sett the box into an ant
hill and the ants will eate away the flesh and leaue the bones,

Take the greatest toade you can gett, thrust him through with a
sharpe stick and pinne him fast toe the ground, then with a woollen
cloth take him by the hinder foote, and with a sharpe knife cut
off the flesh and gristles [...] one these are the best ones and are white
put either of these bones bones uppon the akinge tooth betwixt the cheeke & tooth and hold your head the Contrary way uppon one side, & there will
Runne forth salt water: and the ach will stopp presantly

Another For the same Mr Dingley

Take a toade kill him and put him in a pott & burne him toe
ashes or dry him: make him in powder put soe much of that powder
as a pease into a cloute knitt it close with a thrid and put it to
the tooth and it will quickly stopp the ach

Another For the same Mr Dingley

Take a little of the herbe Brookelyme put it into the eare one the
same side the Tooth aketh, or dropp 3 or 4 droppes of the Juice thereof
into the eare, lye downe one the other side and it will stoppe the
ach presantly

An aproued medeceine for the toothake

Take gunepowder aneyseed watter & linte mingell them all to=
gether & make a litell thinge fitt to put into the toth &
first picke the tooth very cleane then put this into the tooth
but haue a carre of leting any goe downe the throate this
is a present remedey

for the toothake aproued

Take halfe a pinte of white wine uinagar halfe a
handfull of lauender cotten on sponfull of bay salt
boyle them gently over a soft fyer & take the licqor &
put it hote into the mouth & leane one that side & it
will draw away the rume & stay the paine

To stay rume in the teth

spread tackamehackey upon vellet & lay it upon
the uaine on the tempelles long wayes

An excelent Receipt for the toothach some say
Infailable

Take an outlandish oack aple wch we call galls & is that the dyers use & cut the
top of it & the inward kernell out till it is pretty thine & aply that to your
tooth & it will draw the Rume or wormes out

for the tooth ach

Take a pint of red wine & half a pound of Steel heat the Steel
red hot & Squench it in the wine so doe till the wine be half
consumed then hold it on that side the pain is

To cuer the tooth ach

Take a peice of Burgeny pitch the clearest & put it into the
hollow tooth & let it stay 2 or 3 dayes in & then suck out the
bloody matter out of the tooth & put in a fresh peice this will
fasten the teeth

Another

Take a cloue of garlick brused in a rag & put it into your
ear & keep it in till it is dry lye upon that sidw wn you take it
out put in wool
