Adopted From the same Committee rejecting petition of E D Briscoe & others for grading Sixth Street from Spring Street to Marion Street as the petition has not been signed by a majority of the property owners, and your committee is that a petition will be presented to the Council for the grading of said Sixth Street from Depot Street to Spring Street. Adopted From the same Committee rejecting petition of A A Bell & others for opening Bell Street from Seventh Street to Depot Street as there does not appear to be any urgent necessity for opening said street at the time. 479 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE May 18 1888 Councilman Furth moves that South Fifth Street be graded between Washington Street and Jackson Street Carried by unanimous vote. On motion of Councilman Lake, A A Bell is appointed by the Council to obtain dedication of property on Second Street widening said Street to ninety (90) feet. Board if Registration The Council now proceeds to elect a Board of Registration for the ensuing year as follows to wit-: For the First Ward G W Young For the Second Ward Hillory Butler For the Third Ward David Kellogg For the Fourth Ward Wm H Hughes The Above named persons having received the unanimous vote of the Council are duly declared elected. Ordered that the Mayor be and he is hereby appointed a committee of one to invite the Govenor of British Columbia the officers of the Navy at Esquimalt and Municipal officers of neighboring cities to participate in the celebration of the Fourth of July in this day. Ordered that Front Street be planked from Columbia Street to Union Street. Ordered that the Street Committee employ teams and complete the work of filling in Second and Washington Streets Ordered that the Clerk draw a warrant on the General fund in the sum of $2500.00 in favor of John H McGraw for the purpose of decorating the streets for the coming Fourth of July Celebration. Kinnear and others for changing name of Bluff Street to Olympic Avenue, read and granted. Petition of Wm L. Lindsley and others for opening Banner Street from Depot Street to Roy Street, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of Jacob Cowan for permission to blast for two weeks in Bell's Fourth Addition read and granted with the usual restrictions. Adopted provided the grade district is extended from Mill Street to Law St instead of to Jackson Street From Same Committee rejecting petition of A A Bell and others for grading Eighth Street from Depot Street to Mill Street as the same has not been signed by a majority of the property owners in said Street Adopted. From Same Committee rejecting petition of J C Brittain and others for opening West St toUniversity Street and the widening of the Alley through to Mill Street. Adopted From Same Committee on petition of F Hochbrunn and others for changing cetain grades and asking that a Committee be appointed to investigate the grade of Depot, Fifth and other streets, as follows: "We recommend that a committee be appointed to examine said grades with power to act" On motion the whole matter is referred to the Street Committee in conjunction with the City Attorney.
