126 JOURNAL OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE Dec 21 1886 Be it remembered that on this 21st day of December 1886 the Common Council of the City of Seattle meets in its Council Chamber pursuant to adjournment. The following affairs are present to wit: His Honor the Mayor W H Shoudy and Councilmen C W Coulter, J Furth, Joseph Green, J.D. Hinckley, R Russell & C. F. Reitze The minutes of the previous meetings were read and approved Petitions & Communications Petition of Western Union Telegraph Company for permission to stretch its wires along the Grant Street Plank Road. Referred to the Street Committee and returned by the Committee recommending that the petition be granted provided the work was done under the direction of the Street Commissioner. adopted. Petition of Thomas & Davis et al for modification of Ordinance No. 767. so as to permit payments to be made quarterly for liquor licenses. Referred to Committee on License & Revenue. Petition of Melody Choir for the opening of Filbert Street Referred to Street Committee Petition of Sisters of Providence Hospital for renemer -ation in the sum of $218.00 for care of wounded rioters. Referred to Finance Committee. Communication from the three Assemblies of the Knights of Labor in Seattle asking that Street Commissioner L. Cummings be discharged and that Charles Brown be re-employed on the Streets for the reason that it is alleged that Street Commissioner Cummings discharged the said Brown from the Street force for political reasons. Referred to Judiciary Committee.

379 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE is submitted by the City Attorney entitled "An Ordinance vacating the Alley in Block "Q" in Bell's Sixth Addition to the City of Seattle which is passed by the following vote: In favor of the same, Frink, Green, Lake, Niesz, Rus-sell and Reitze. Against the same, none. Ordered that the Council do now adjourn. Attest W R Forrest Clerk Approved Acting Mayor Feb 3 1888 Be it remembered that on this 3rd day of February AD 1888 the Common Council of the city of Seattle meets in its council chamber pursuant to law. The following offices are present to wit: Mayor Thos. T. Minor & Councilmen J. Furth, J. M. Frink, Jos Green T. W. Lake, R Moran, U. R. Niesz, R Russell & C. F. Reitze & W R Forrest, clerk. Whereupon the following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of Geo. G. Lyon & others for opening High Street from Temperance to Banner Street a distance on[e] Block Banner Street from High Street to Allee Street a distance of one half a block and Alle street from Banner Street to Light Street a distance of one block. Read & referred to Street Committee. Petition of W F Epler, Sarah E Epler for remission and cor-rection of certain taxes caused by clerical error. Granted. Petition of Henry Peterson to have nuisance caused by water running from Seventh Street drains across petitioners lot. abated, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of John E. Carlson for permission to erect a small building on the vacant street corner of Spring & Front Street for a fruit & tobacco stand. Referred to Street Com.

537 COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SEATTLE Jul 20 1888 Be it remembered that on the 20th day of July A.D. 1888 the Common Council of the City of Seattle met in its Council Chamber pursuant to law. The following officers were to wit: His Hon. T. T. Minor & Councilmen J. Furth, J. M. Frink, Joseph Green, T. W. Lake Robt Moran, U. R. Niesz & C. F. Reitze. Absent R. Russell, whereupon the following proceedings are had, to wit: Petitions etc Petition of J. D. Smith and others praying the Council to grant the application of H. W. Wheeler and his associates for a street railway franchise on Union Street from Second Street to Ninth Street. Read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of the Pacific Seattle Cable Road and Water Company for an extension of the time to commence work on said road. On motion the petition is granted, provided that the petitioner will file in writing with the City Clerk within ten(10) days its written consent that the City retain the $1000.00 now in its possession as a guaranty for the completion of its road within one year from this day, and that work on said road be commenced within sixty (60) days from this date. Remonstrance of Bailey Gatzert and others against granting A. S. Miller and others permission to grade Marion Street between Fourth Street and Fifth Street, read and referred to Street Committee. Petition of Geo. C. Monroe for permission to transfer his liquor license from the Arcade Saloon on Washington Street to the Mint Saloon on Main Street between Commercial Street and South Second Street. Granted.
