It had a soft velvety appearance, and the forests looked so soft and nice, just as if it would be fun to jump off into them. Lt. Lambert, an old Sic. 8 man took me up in a Salmson. Most of the boys got rides in A.R.s. They cant stunt A.R. so I am glad that I got a ride in a Salmson. -- We walked home from the field a distance of five miles in fifty minutes. Pete Peterson

Have an eight hour stretch. Got off at 4 P.M. -- Received my commission and took my oath today. A liutenant was killed in landing tonight. Pete Peterson got run over by a plain on the field. He was pretty badly shaken up and broozed but not seriously hurt. Poor old Pete.

When I got in from flying Grub told me that Schreiber had been killed this morning. Schreiber is the first one of my close friends to go. It was quite a shock, as just last night Schreiber and
